1

The Lord, the Lord of Hosts, is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah their support and supply—the entire supply of bread and the entire supply of water—

For behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem, and from Judah, the stay and the staff, the whole staff of bread, and the whole stay of water—

The strong man, the warrior, the judge, the prophet, the wise person, and the elder;

The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient;

The captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the eloquent speaker.

I will make children their leaders, and infants will rule over them.

And I will give children unto them to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

People will oppress each other, everyone by their neighbor; children will act arrogantly toward the elderly, and the lowly will act disrespectfully toward the honorable.

And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor; the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.

When a man grabs his brother from his father’s house and says, “You have clothing, so be our leader, and don’t let this destruction come upon us”—

When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand—

At that time he will swear and say, “I will not be a healer, because there is no bread or clothing in my house. Don’t make me a ruler of the people. ”

In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.

Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah has fallen, because their words and actions have been against the Lord, provoking the eyes of his glory.

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

The look on their faces testifies against them and shows that their sin is like that of Sodom, and they can't hide it. Woe to their souls, for they have brought evil upon themselves!

The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!

Tell the righteous that things are well for them, because they will enjoy the results of their actions.

Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

Woe to the wicked, for they will perish; the consequences of their actions will come upon them!

Wo unto the wicked, for they shall perish; for the reward of their hands shall be upon them!

My people are oppressed by children, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders are causing you to go astray and are ruining the way you should follow.

And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.

The Lord stands up to plead and stands to judge the people.

The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

The Lord will judge the elders of his people and their leaders, because you have consumed the vineyard and taken what belongs to the poor into your houses.

The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof; for ye have eaten up the vineyard and the spoil of the poor in your houses.

What are you doing? You crush my people and grind the faces of the poor, says the Lord God of Hosts.

What mean ye? Ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor, saith the Lord God of Hosts.

The Lord says: Because the daughters of Zion are proud and walk with their heads held high and flirtatious eyes, walking with small, dainty steps and making tinkling sounds with their feet—

Moreover, the Lord saith: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet—

So the Lord will strike the heads of the daughters of Zion with sores, and he will expose their hidden parts.

Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.

On that day, the Lord will take away the beauty of their tinkling ornaments, headbands, and crescent-shaped jewelry.

In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon;

The chains, the bracelets, and the scarves;

The bonnets, the ornaments for the legs, the headbands, the pendants, and the earrings;

The rings and nose jewelry.

The fashionable clothes, the mantles, the shawls, and the purses;

The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;

The mirrors, fine linen, hoods, and veils.

The glasses, and the fine linen, and hoods, and the veils.

Instead of a sweet smell, there will be a bad odor; instead of a belt, a tear; instead of well-styled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, the wearing of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.

And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; burning instead of beauty.

Your men will fall by the sword, and your warriors will die in the war.

Her gates will lament and mourn; she will be desolate and will sit on the ground.
