Chapter 24

18 verses

1

He told them to write the words that the Father had given to Malachi, which he would share with them. After they were written, he explained them. These are the words he spoke to them: The Father said to Malachi—"I will send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. The Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in. He will come, " says the Lord of Hosts.

And it came to pass that he commanded them that they should write the words which the Father had given unto Malachi, which he should tell unto them. And it came to pass that after they were written he expounded them. And these are the words which he did tell unto them, saying: Thus said the Father unto Malachi—Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in; behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.

But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like a launderer’s soap.

But who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap.

He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and cleanse them like gold and silver, so they can offer a righteous offering to the Lord.

And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord, just as it was in ancient times and in years past.

Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

I will come to you for judgment and will quickly testify against sorcerers, adulterers, liars, those who cheat workers out of their wages, those who oppress widows and orphans, those who turn away strangers, and those who do not fear me, says the Lord of Hosts.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger, and fear not me, saith the Lord of Hosts.

I am the Lord, I do not change; that is why you sons of Jacob are not destroyed.

Since the days of your ancestors, you have turned away from my commandments and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Hosts. But you ask, “How should we return? ”

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of Hosts. But ye say: Wherein shall we return?

Will a person rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you ask, “How have we robbed you? ” In tithes and offerings.

You are cursed because you have robbed me—this entire nation.

Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord of Hosts, and see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing so great that there will not be enough room to receive it.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house; and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I will rebuke the devourer for your sake, and he will not destroy the fruits of your land. Your vine will not drop its fruit before it is ripe in the fields, says the Lord of Hosts.

All nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land, says the Lord of Hosts.

The Lord says, “You have spoken strongly against me. ” But you ask, “What have we said against you? ”

Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say: What have we spoken against thee?

You have said, “It is pointless to serve God, and what benefit is there in keeping his commandments and walking humbly before the Lord of Hosts? ”

Ye have said: It is vain to serve God, and what doth it profit that we have kept his ordinances and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of Hosts?

Now we call the proud happy; those who do evil are promoted, and those who test God are even rescued.

And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

Then those who feared the Lord often spoke with each other, and the Lord listened and heard them. A book of remembrance was written before him for those who feared the Lord and thought about his name.

Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another, and the Lord hearkened and heard; and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

They will be mine, says the Lord of Hosts, on the day when I gather my treasured people; and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.

And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of Hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

Then you will return and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not serve him.
