When Coriantumr had recovered from his wounds, he began to remember the words that Ether had spoken to him.

And it came to pass when Coriantumr had recovered of his wounds, he began to remember the words which Ether had spoken unto him.

He saw that nearly two million of his people had already been killed by the sword, and he began to sorrow in his heart. Two million mighty men had been killed, along with their wives and children.

He saw that there had been slain by the sword already nearly two millions of his people, and he began to sorrow in his heart; yea, there had been slain two millions of mighty men, and also their wives and their children.

He started to repent of the wrong he had done; he began to remember the words spoken by all the prophets, and he saw that they had been fulfilled completely; and his soul mourned and refused to be comforted.

He wrote a letter to Shiz, asking him to spare the people, and promised to give up the kingdom to save their lives.

And it came to pass that he wrote an epistle unto Shiz, desiring him that he would spare the people, and he would give up the kingdom for the sake of the lives of the people.

When Shiz received his letter, he wrote back to Coriantumr, saying that if Coriantumr would surrender so Shiz could kill him with his own sword, then Shiz would spare the lives of the people.

And it came to pass that when Shiz had received his epistle he wrote an epistle unto Coriantumr, that if he would give himself up, that he might slay him with his own sword, that he would spare the lives of the people.

The people did not repent of their sins. The people of Coriantumr became angry with the people of Shiz, and the people of Shiz became angry with the people of Coriantumr. So the people of Shiz went to battle against the people of Coriantumr.

And it came to pass that the people repented not of their iniquity; and the people of Coriantumr were stirred up to anger against the people of Shiz; and the people of Shiz were stirred up to anger against the people of Coriantumr; wherefore, the people of Shiz did give battle unto the people of Coriantumr.

When Coriantumr realized he was about to be defeated, he ran away from Shiz’s people again.

And when Coriantumr saw that he was about to fall he fled again before the people of Shiz.

He came to the waters of Ripliancum, which means large, or to exceed all. When they arrived at these waters, they set up their tents, and Shiz also set up his tents nearby. The next day, they went to battle.

And it came to pass that he came to the waters of Ripliancum, which, by interpretation, is large, or to exceed all; wherefore, when they came to these waters they pitched their tents; and Shiz also pitched his tents near unto them; and therefore on the morrow they did come to battle.

They fought an extremely intense battle, during which Coriantumr was wounded again and fainted from the loss of blood.

The armies of Coriantumr attacked the armies of Shiz and defeated them, forcing them to flee. They fled south and set up their tents in a place called Ogath.

And it came to pass that the armies of Coriantumr did press upon the armies of Shiz that they beat them, that they caused them to flee before them; and they did flee southward, and did pitch their tents in a place which was called Ogath.

Coriantumr’s army set up their tents by the hill Ramah, which was the same hill where my father Mormon hid the sacred records for the Lord.

They gathered together all the people across the entire land who had not been killed, except for Ether.

Ether saw everything the people did; he saw that those who supported Coriantumr joined his army, and those who supported Shiz joined the army of Shiz.

And it came to pass that Ether did behold all the doings of the people; and he beheld that the people who were for Coriantumr were gathered together to the army of Coriantumr; and the people who were for Shiz were gathered together to the army of Shiz.

They spent four years gathering the people so they could bring together everyone in the land and gain all the strength they possibly could.

Wherefore, they were for the space of four years gathering together the people, that they might get all who were upon the face of the land, and that they might receive all the strength which it was possible that they could receive.

When they were all gathered together, each joining the army he chose, with their wives and children—men, women, and children all armed with weapons of war, having shields, breastplates, and helmets, and dressed for battle—they marched out against each other to fight. They fought all day, but neither side won.

And it came to pass that when they were all gathered together, every one to the army which he would, with their wives and their children—both men women and children being armed with weapons of war, having shields, and breastplates, and head-plates, and being clothed after the manner of war—they did march forth one against another to battle; and they fought all that day, and conquered not.

When night came, they were tired and went back to their camps. After they returned to their camps, they began to howl and mourn for the loss of their people who had been killed. Their cries, howling, and mourning were so intense that they filled the air.

And it came to pass that when it was night they were weary, and retired to their camps; and after they had retired to their camps they took up a howling and a lamentation for the loss of the slain of their people; and so great were their cries, their howlings and lamentations, that they did rend the air exceedingly.

The next day they went to battle again, and that day was great and terrible; but neither side won. When night came, they filled the air with their cries, howlings, and mourning for the loss of their people who had been killed.

And it came to pass that on the morrow they did go again to battle, and great and terrible was that day; nevertheless, they conquered not, and when the night came again they did rend the air with their cries, and their howlings, and their mournings, for the loss of the slain of their people.

Coriantumr wrote another letter to Shiz, asking him not to return to battle, but instead to take the kingdom and spare the lives of the people.

The Spirit of the Lord had stopped striving with them, and Satan had full power over the hearts of the people, because they were given up to the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds so they might be destroyed. So they went again to battle.

The next day they fought again, and by nightfall only fifty-two of Coriantumr’s people and sixty-nine of Shiz’s people were left alive.

That night, they slept with their swords, and the next day they fought again, struggling with all their strength using their swords and shields throughout the entire day.

When night came, there were thirty-two of Shiz’s people and twenty-seven of Coriantumr’s people.

They ate and slept, and prepared to die the next day. They were large and mighty men, strong in the strength of men.

They fought for three hours, and they collapsed from the loss of blood.

When the men of Coriantumr had regained enough strength to walk, they were about to run for their lives. But Shiz and his men got up, and in his anger, Shiz swore that he would kill Coriantumr or die by the sword himself.

And it came to pass that when the men of Coriantumr had received sufficient strength that they could walk, they were about to flee for their lives; but behold, Shiz arose, and also his men, and he swore in his wrath that he would slay Coriantumr or he would perish by the sword.

He chased after them and caught up to them the next day, and they fought again with swords. When everyone had been killed by the sword except Coriantumr and Shiz, Shiz fainted from the loss of blood.

Wherefore, he did pursue them, and on the morrow he did overtake them; and they fought again with the sword. And it came to pass that when they had all fallen by the sword, save it were Coriantumr and Shiz, behold Shiz had fainted with the loss of blood.

When Coriantumr leaned on his sword and rested for a moment, he cut off Shiz's head.

After he cut off Shiz’s head, Shiz raised himself up on his hands and then fell. After struggling to breathe, he died.

Coriantumr fell to the ground and became as if he had no life.

And it came to pass that Coriantumr fell to the earth, and became as if he had no life.

The Lord spoke to Ether and told him to go out. He went out and saw that everything the Lord had said had come true. He finished his record (I have not written a hundredth part of it) and hid it in a way that the people of Limhi later found it.

And the Lord spake unto Ether, and said unto him: Go forth. And he went forth, and beheld that the words of the Lord had all been fulfilled; and he finished his record; (and the hundredth part I have not written) and he hid them in a manner that the people of Limhi did find them.

The last words written by Ether are these: Whether the Lord wants me to be taken up or to remain and experience His will in the flesh, it doesn’t matter, as long as I am saved in the kingdom of God. Amen.

Now the last words which are written by Ether are these: Whether the Lord will that I be translated, or that I suffer the will of the Lord in the flesh, it mattereth not, if it so be that I am saved in the kingdom of God. Amen.
