This is the prophecy about Babylon that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw.
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
Raise a banner on the high mountain, call out to them, wave your hand so they may enter the gates of the nobles.
Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
I have commanded my holy ones; I have also called my mighty ones, because my anger is not directed at those who rejoice in my greatness.
I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones, for mine anger is not upon them that rejoice in my highness.
The sound of the crowd in the mountains is like that of a great people, a loud commotion as kingdoms and nations gather together. The Lord of Hosts is assembling the armies for battle.
The noise of the multitude in the mountains like as of a great people, a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together, the Lord of Hosts mustereth the hosts of the battle.
They come from a distant country, from the ends of heaven—the Lord and the weapons of his anger—to destroy the entire land.
They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, yea, the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
Cry out, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
So everyone’s hands will grow weak, and each person’s heart will lose courage.
Therefore shall all hands be faint, every man’s heart shall melt;
They will be afraid; pain and sorrow will grip them; they will look at each other in astonishment; their faces will be like flames.
And they shall be afraid; pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
The day of the Lord is coming, cruel with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land desolate; and he will destroy the sinners from it.
Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
The stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be darkened as it rises, and the moon will not shine.
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
I will punish the world for evil and the wicked for their sins; I will put an end to the arrogance of the proud and bring down the haughtiness of the ruthless.
And I will punish the world for evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay down the haughtiness of the terrible.
I will make a person more valuable than fine gold, more rare than the pure gold of Ophir.
I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of its place, in the wrath of the Lord of Hosts and on the day of his fierce anger.
Therefore, I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of Hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
It will be like a hunted deer, and like a sheep that no one gathers; everyone will return to his own people, and each person will flee to his own land.
And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up; and they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.
Everyone who is proud will be pierced through, and everyone who joins with the wicked will be killed by the sword.
Every one that is proud shall be thrust through; yea, and every one that is joined to the wicked shall fall by the sword.
Their children will be smashed to pieces in front of them; their houses will be looted and their wives assaulted.
Their children, also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled and their wives ravished.
I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not care about silver and gold, and will not take pleasure in it.
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver and gold, nor shall they delight in it.
Their bows will shatter young men, and they will have no pity on unborn children; they will not spare children.
Their bows shall also dash the young men to pieces, and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.
Babylon, the glory of kingdoms and the pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God destroyed them.
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation. The Arabian will not set up his tent there, and shepherds will not make their sheepfolds there.
It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
Wild animals of the desert will live there, and their houses will be filled with sorrowful creatures. Owls will make their home there, and satyrs will dance there.
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
Wild animals will cry out in their deserted houses, and dragons will be in their once-beautiful palaces. Her time is almost here, and her day will not be delayed. I will destroy her quickly, for I will show mercy to my people, but the wicked will be destroyed.
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her day shall not be prolonged. For I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish.
