Chapter 24

32 verses

1

The Lord will have mercy on Jacob and will again choose Israel, setting them in their own land. Strangers will join with them and will be united with the house of Jacob.

For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

The people will take them and bring them to their place, from distant lands to the ends of the earth, and they will return to their promised lands. The house of Israel will possess them, and the land of the Lord will have servants and handmaids. They will take captive those who once held them captive, and they will rule over their oppressors.

And the people shall take them and bring them to their place; yea, from far unto the ends of the earth; and they shall return to their lands of promise. And the house of Israel shall possess them, and the land of the Lord shall be for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captives unto whom they were captives; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

On that day, the Lord will give you rest from your sorrow, from your fear, and from the hard bondage you were forced to serve.

On that day, you will speak this proverb against the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has ended, the golden city has come to an end!

The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked and the scepters of the rulers.

The one who struck the people in anger with constant blows, who ruled the nations with fury, is now persecuted, and no one stops it.

He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

The whole earth is at rest and quiet; people burst into song.

The fir trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon say, “Since you have been brought down, no one has come to cut us down. ”

Yea, the fir-trees rejoice at thee, and also the cedars of Lebanon, saying: Since thou art laid down no feller is come up against us.

Hell below is stirred up to meet you when you arrive; it wakes the dead for you, including all the leaders of the earth; it has raised all the kings of the nations from their thrones.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

Everyone will speak and say to you, "Have you also become as weak as we are? Have you become like us?

Your pride has been brought down to the grave; the sound of your harps is no longer heard. Maggots are spread beneath you, and worms cover you.

How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! You have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!

You have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, on the farthest sides of the north;

For thou hast said in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north;

I will rise above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.

But you will be brought down to hell, to the depths of the pit.

Those who see you will look closely at you and think about you, saying, “Is this the man who made the earth tremble and shook kingdoms? ”

They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and shall consider thee, and shall say: Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms?

He made the world like a wilderness, destroyed its cities, and did not release his prisoners.

All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each one in his own house.

But you are thrown out of your grave like a disgusting branch, like the remains of those who were killed and stabbed with a sword, who go down among the stones of the pit; like a corpse trampled underfoot.

But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and the remnant of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.

You will not be buried with them, because you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The descendants of evildoers will never be famous.

Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land and slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall never be renowned.

Prepare to destroy his children because of their fathers’ sins, so they won’t rise up, take possession of the land, or fill the earth with cities.

Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquities of their fathers, that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

I will rise up against them, says the Lord of Hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, the remnant, the son, and the nephew, says the Lord.

I will make it a home for the bittern and pools of water, and I will sweep it away with the broom of destruction, says the Lord of Hosts.

The Lord of Hosts has sworn, saying: Just as I have planned, so it will happen; and just as I have intended, so it will stand—

I will bring the Assyrian into my land, and on my mountains I will trample him underfoot; then his yoke will be removed from my people, and his burden will be taken off their shoulders.

This is the purpose planned for the whole earth, and this is the hand stretched out over all nations.

The Lord of Hosts has planned it, and who can cancel it? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

This message came in the year that King Ahaz died.

Do not rejoice, all of Philistia, because the rod of the one who struck you is broken; for out of the serpent’s root will come a viper, and its offspring will be a fiery flying serpent.

Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

The firstborn of the poor will have food, and the needy will rest in safety. I will destroy your root with famine, and he will kill your remnant.

Howl, gate; cry out, city; all of Palestina, you are destroyed. Smoke will come from the north, and no one will be alone at the time appointed.

What will they say to the messengers of the nations? The Lord has established Zion, and the poor among his people will trust in it.
